LLN in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry

Client
Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR)
Description
Funded through the 2009/10 Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) program, this resource will be used as a guide for teachers and trainers, delivering qualifications from the RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. The guide covers general information about core language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills, how to find core LLN skills in training programs, how to find core LLN skills at work, and sample training activities to develop core LLN skills for the resources and infrastructure industries.
Consultation with trainers who deliver resources and infrastructure industry qualifications reveals that many learners have either low level core LLN skills, or core skills that are not at the level required for their work, for example, many have difficulty in writing a report.
This resource provides vocational trainers with background information about core LLN skills, practical examples of how to locate core skills in training specifications, and sample activities that may be customised for use in training settings.
