Skill Sets Professional Development

Client
National Quality Council (NQC)
Description
As of 2007, the NQC has determined that skill sets will be an integral part of nationally endorsed Training Packages, and are defined as "one or more units that meet an industry need to provide skills for a discrete part or function of a job and have currency in the workplace."
Skill sets will complement full qualifications within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). From 2007 onwards, skill sets will be developed in consultation with industry representatives and regulatory/licensing authorities and inserted into Training Packages as part of the ongoing continuous improvement of Australia's world class VET system. Previously students who did not complete a full qualification could only receive a Statement of Attainment for each unit completed, without any indication of whether the units selected met a defined industry need or licensing/regulatory requirement.
The definition of these needs and requirements in skill sets will allow nearly half of all students undertaking publicly funded training to receive national recognition for their studies. Skill sets will also provide employers with a clearly defined statement of skills and knowledge to meet industry needs. In addition skill sets will make it easier for licensing and regulatory authorities to assess whether applicants have attained the necessary skills and knowledge to be granted a license or become registered.
